Virtues
I aspire to be a person that embodies virtue and compassion. When I grow up I want to be an angel. A saint. A bodhisattva. To operationalize that, I borrow wording from MCTB2::Morality chapter. Basically, make a list of virtues. And that's your tech tree / rubric. In any given moment, you can grade your actions along the rubric and work towards improving and maxing out all skills.
My Virtue Framework
- Kindness towards ourselves
- Kindness towards others, both humans and non-humans
- Ability to skillfully support ourselves
- Ability to skillfully support others
- Ability to set and respect reasonable boundaries
- Ability to pace ourselves to work up to our potential without burning out
- Support of physical health (diet, exercise, sleep, etc)
- Give 100% of my attention to people when I talk to them
- Skillful relationship to substances
- Skillful relationships with people
- Written communication ability
- Spoken communication ability
- Emotional maturity
- Sense of humor
- Generosity
- Gratitude
This framework is adapted from Daniel Ingram's work in Mastering the Core Teachings of the Buddha, tailored to my personal development priorities.
