Virtues

I aspire to be a person that embodies virtue and compassion. When I grow up I want to be an angel. A saint. A bodhisattva. To operationalize that, I borrow wording from MCTB2::Morality chapter. Basically, make a list of virtues. And that's your tech tree / rubric. In any given moment, you can grade your actions along the rubric and work towards improving and maxing out all skills.

My Virtue Framework

  1. Kindness towards ourselves
  2. Kindness towards others, both humans and non-humans
  3. Ability to skillfully support ourselves
  4. Ability to skillfully support others
  5. Ability to set and respect reasonable boundaries
  6. Ability to pace ourselves to work up to our potential without burning out
  7. Support of physical health (diet, exercise, sleep, etc)
  8. Give 100% of my attention to people when I talk to them
  9. Skillful relationship to substances
  10. Skillful relationships with people
  11. Written communication ability
  12. Spoken communication ability
  13. Emotional maturity
  14. Sense of humor
  15. Generosity
  16. Gratitude

This framework is adapted from Daniel Ingram's work in Mastering the Core Teachings of the Buddha, tailored to my personal development priorities.
